Junior Hockey 2008
The Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Juniors finished their debut season with a final tournament
against two strong Under 13 teams from Morpeth on a blustery Sunday morning at The Parks. With players aging from eight up to twelve the two home teams took the game to the visitors and Whitley Bay and Tynemouth B team (in Yellow) took the lead in their first game only to lose unluckily 2-1 to Morpeth A team while the other home team (in yellow) lost their match against Morpeth B team 1-0, keeper Harry Cardy unable to stop a fantastic shot from the Morpeth player who was three years older than him. The two home teams produced some excellent hockey as they played out a 2-2 draw, in a match which featured goals from debutante Sophie Twaddle and the hard working Daniel Cooke. The B team lost their final game against Morpeth B 1-2 after leading, Chris Dunce working exceedingly hard throughout the tournament scored. However the A team managed to draw 2-2 against the more experienced Morpeth A.
The highlights of the season have been the dedication that the youngsters have shown
throughout the season in all weathers with new additions to the squad throughout the season. Joe Nelson was named player of the month for March for his hard work and positive attitude while Sophie Twaddle impressed on her debut. The form of the two goalkeepers, Harry Cardy and Jamie Dryden indicates that there could be plenty to look forward to for next season which re-starts with training on Tuesday 16th September (7pm until 8pm).
